History

Tennessee Cooperative Baptist Fellowship formed in 1992 at Woodmont Baptist Church in Nashville (one year following the formation of National CBF). In November of that year, action was taken at First Baptist Church in Gatlinburg to establish Tennessee Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (TCBF) as an official organization. Lloyd Householder, Bill Junker, Monty Jordan, Lila Boyd and Ircel Harrison served as TCBF coordinators. We are grateful for the investment each one of these leaders made to help TCBF become more visible across our state. Throughout this website, you will see the fruit of their labors represented in many meaningful ministries that were established during their tenures and continue today. Consider this brief list of unique ministries started to help TCBF fulfill her mission:

  • Tennessee Partners in Missions Offering (TPIM) (now called Tennessee Priorities in Mission)
  • Peer Learning Groups for clergy
  • Theological scholarships for seminary students
  • Betty Galloway Advocacy for Women in Ministry Award
  • Tennessee Horizons fund to assist with new church starts
  • Relationship with Central Baptist Theological Seminary—Murfreesboro campus

You will also discover in this website new initiatives capturing the imagination of free and faithful Baptists in Tennessee. TCBF has a rich heritage and the future is bright as we enable individuals and congregations to become the presence of Christ in the world.
