Coaching
TCBF’s Field Coordinator, Terry Maples, received training in clergy and congregational coaching from Holifield Training Center in North Carolina. He has experience coaching ministers and congregations. Coaching via telephone is offered to pastors and staff ministers serving congregations affiliated with TCBF.
- Clergy Coaching—Many ministers are taking advantage of coaching to increase their effectiveness within the church and/or to enrich their personal lives. Coaching helps build skills for ministry and helps the minister discover creative resources for handling conflict and congregational challenges. In addition, coaching can help the minister set new goals because coaching is focused on the needs and goals of the minister. When ministers function more effectively, congregations benefit and healthier relationships form—potentially resulting in longer tenure and congregational stability.
- Congregational Coaching—The Field Coordinator is also available on a limited basis to coach congregations. Occasionally, congregations need objective lenses to navigate conflict or assistance discerning vision or direction from God. A coach can lead the congregation through a discernment process (through asking powerful questions) so the congregation can find clarity about identity and calling and channel its resources and gifts to make a difference in the world.
