Spring classes offered at Central Baptist
Theological Seminary Tennessee

Central Baptist Theological Seminary Tennessee announces two classes that will be taught during spring at First Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  The classes are “The Bible in Popular Culture” and “Spiritual Formation and Adult Human  Development.”  These courses may be taken for academic credit by those in the seminary’s Master of Divinity or Diploma of Theology degree programs or audited by Lifelong Learners.  Classes meet once a month on Friday evenings and Saturdays for four months.

“The Bible in Popular Culture” is an exploration of the biblical themes, images, and metaphors in contemporary film, music and cultural arts and an examination of where religion and culture intersect. This class will be taught by Dr. Joel Emerson, chaplain at Monroe Carell, Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.  Emerson is a published composer and has worked in the music industry as well as serving local churches.  The dates of the class are January 13-14, February 10-11, March 2-3, and April 20-21.

“Spiritual Formation and Adult Human Development” will consider the faith development challenges at each stage of adult life.  The instructor will be Dr. Richard Olson, Distinguished Professor of Pastoral Theology at Central Baptist Theological Seminary, Shawnee, Kansas.  Olson is an experienced pastor, lecturer, and researcher, as well as the author of several books on human development and pastoral care. The class will meet on January 20-21, February 17-18, March 9-10, and April 27-28.
